Did You Know?
As we celebrate our 35th anniversary this year and look toward our Annual Spring Benefit, here are some historical tidbits from CHA's first 10 years:
Location, Location, Location
From the time CHA first opened in the fall of 1984, to the summer of 1994, the school was located in the small former Oaklane Elementary School building in Northbrook, tucked back into a quiet residential area. The building had been purchased from the Village by the Korean Central Covenant Church who agreed to rent us their classrooms and other spaces on weekdays.

The "Miracle of Marillac"
As the the young CHA outgrew its modest Northbrook location, the need for a larger facility became urgent. By the spring of 1994, a focused search committee had not been able to find a suitable new location for CHA. Adding to the urgency, the church could not extend CHA's lease into the coming school year.
By faith, with no school home in sight, families registered their children for the next fall. That summer, by God's providence, the campus of Marillac High School, a Catholic girls' school on Waukegan Road in Northfield, suddenly became available. Dedicated parent representatives of CHA worked through the summer with the Daughters of Charity to secure the sale of the property to CHA. The school took possession in mid-August, and through the efforts of many committed school parents, CHA was packed up, moved and resettled in its beautiful new home just barely in time to begin the 1994-95 school year!
So many wonderful amenities were gained that the CHA school community had not previously known, including 45+ classrooms, a full gymnasium, 850-seat auditorium, two music rooms, a chapel, an enormous student center, professional kitchen, spacious offices, generous outdoor fields, and more, all set on nearly 15 acres in a conveniently accessible location.
Through the events of summer 1994, the Lord had provided far beyond any expectation. It was with awe and humble gratefulness that His abundant provision to CHA soon came to be known as the Miracle of Marillac!
