Freshman to Represent Walker's at the Connecticut Poetry Out Loud State Finals
Freshman Kristen St. Louis '21 has been selected by faculty to represent Walker's at the Connecticut Poetry Out Loud State Finals later this winter following an oratory between four Walker's students on December 15. Each finalist recited a poem of their choosing in front of the Walker's community and were evaluated based on physical presence, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, evidence of understanding and overall performance. The winner of the state finals will have the opportunity to represent the state of Connecticut in Washington, DC for the National Poetry Out Loud Competition. Hooray Sunray, Kristen!

Liz Helmin '19 has been working with our sixth grade students in her "My Words, My Choice" program to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award. Liz has been a Scout since she was five years old. The program she developed with the support of several Walker's faculty members includes activities on choosing your words carefully, how your words impact others and accepting differences. The Gold Award is the highest award in Girl Scouting. She will receive it in June 2018.

Walker's Celebrates Opening of New Paddocks with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
On Wednesday, December 20, members of the Walker's community gathered at the site of the new paddocks for a brief ribbon cutting ceremony. In fall 2017, Walker's constructed a beautiful, larger turn-out area in the heart of the open fields directly across from the Frank O.H. Williams Barn featuring 14 individual paddocks of larger and varied sizes. Each is equipped with a Nelson automatic horse waterer to provide a constant supply of fresh drinking water for Walker's horses in all seasons.
