MLK Day Program and Other Special Schedules
This coming Monday, January 15 is a special schedule for our annual MLK Day programming:

          12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Keynote Speaker
          1:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. X Block
          1:45 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Middle School Sports

    (Upper School has variable practice times)

Head of School on KZSU Stanford FM
Head of School Meera Viswanathan recently had an opportunity to do an extended interview with the Stanford University radio station KZSU for their Modern Tek News program about education in the 21st Century and how she, faculty and staff mentor girls at Walker's to foster an environment of leadership. She also shared her thoughts on the role that parents play in their daughters' education and how joy and happiness are critical factors in learning.


The Heart of the Story: Students Learn from
Yale Student and Filmmaker

For the first day back at school, students in Catherine Reed's World Literature class, Jenn Pelletier's International Relations class and some of Colleen Olsen's Global Perspectives students were treated to an extraordinary presentation by Patrick Sullivan, a filmmaker working on a documentary about his work with refugees in Greece. Sullivan is a senior at Yale and though his academic focus has been on the terrible injustices of incarceration in America, his trip to the detention centers on the island of Lesbos in the fall revealed to him the parallel ills of the refugee camps there.

Walker's is excited to welcome renowned equestrian trainers Linda Langmeier and Joanna "Jo" Seaver '99 back to our equestrian program! With Linda serving as Director of Walker’s Equestrian Program and Head Trainer and Jo as Senior Trainer, both bring their expertise and leadership to our riding program and will provide world-class training to our students. Read more about Linda and Jo here:

Walker's Musicians Performing in 
Northeast Regional

Isabelle Chen '19, Adela Yan '19 and Hazel Wang '19 will represent Walker's in the 2018 Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) Northeast Regional Festival this Friday and Saturday at New Britain High School. A concert will feature the finest musicians from the region in jazz band, orchestra, concert band and choir. Isabelle, Adela and Hazel were selected to participate in the festival following a rigorous adjudication process last year. Hooray Sunray!

From the College Counseling Office
Class of 2018: Last night, seniors were treated to a panel presentation given by 17 members of the class of 2017. They offered reassurances to seniors about their preparation for college, support for their concerns about choosing colleges, and helpful answers to the questions they posed.
Class of 2019: Today we mailed invitations to the Junior College Program for students and parents being held on February 17. We hope you are able to join us for this important day.

Class Rings Available for Purchase
Balfour Class Ring representatives will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16 in the atrium of Abra's if you wish to order an Ethel Walker School class ring. Each Signet ring features the School seal in purple and initials (free) or full name ($15.00) may be engraved inside the ring. All rings are available in 18, 14 or 10 karat yellow, rose or white gold, Sterling Silver, Argentium Silver and Silvertone Celestrium.

Join Us for the 3rd Annual Night of
Comedy & Community

Enjoy A Night of Comedy & Community at Walker's on Friday, February 2 to benefit Horizons at The Ethel Walker School. The 3rd annual event will feature the comedy of stand-up comedian Sara Shea and comedy company Sea Tea Improv. There will also be a live auction with great items up for bid! Tickets are $60 a person (ages 18+) and are now available for purchase:
