Walker's new Engineering class kicked off on Tuesday, with students learning how to build a circuit with a light and switch and then write the code to control it. Next week, students will continue building circuits with different sensor types and further their coding skills to interpret and respond to the new types of input. The course runs on Tuesday evenings and is co-taught by Dr. Emma Mitchell and Leslie Goff.

Senior Named 2018 Redden Award Recipient by the Yale Club
Senior Keeley Duran has been given The Redden Award for 2018 by the Yale Club, honoring the most outstanding senior girl in combined fields of scholarship, athletics, and leadership. Duran was selected from among nominees throughout the Hartford and Eastern Connecticut region.

Flutist Receives Award in Young Musicians Contest
Walker's flutist Hazel Wang '19 received an Honorable Mention in her age category at the 2018 Young Musicians Contest, held by the New York Flute Club. Hazel performed Fantaisie by French composer Phillipe Gaubert. She competed among other talented young flutists in the United States, including precollege students from Juilliard School of Music and Manhattan School of Music.

Student Artwork on Exhibit at the 
Farmington Valley Art Center

Hooray Sunray to Samantha Logan '18, Jasmine Morris '19 and Han (Lucy) Yang '18, who will be representing Walker's at the NEXT: Emerging Talent exhibition presented by the Farmington Valley Arts Center in Avon at their Drezner Gallery. The exhibition, which runs February 10-March 3, will be juried for awards by Kate Swanson from the New Britain Museum of American Art. The artist reception and awards ceremony is this Sunday, February 11 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Addresses Needed for Grandparents
and Friends Day

Invitations for Grandparent's and Friend's
Day 2018 will be mailed soon and we need your help in gathering some information to ensure invitations are received. Your daughter's grandparents or other special adults in her life are invited to spend the day on campus on Friday, April 13 attending morning meeting, classes and other special activities. Please log in to Veracross and update your family information by going to 'Update Household Profile'.

2018 Connecticut Horse Symposium:
Help Spread the Word about SRE

Join us at the annual Connecticut Horse Symposium sponsored by the UConn CAHNR Department of Animal Science and Country Folks Mane Stream. This year's event features a western dressage clinic given by Mike Marquez of Vaquero Training Center and a Hands on Horse Science clinic. There will also be vendors, equine camp representatives, a UConn Morgan Drill Team demonstration and polo "match." Walker's will be there to promote our Summer Riding Experience.
