Students Participate in Memory Project for Children from Afghanistan
Under the leadership of Walker's head of community service, Garet Wierdsma '18, 12 Walker's students have volunteered to draw 12 portraits for children from Afghanistan through a partnership with the Memory Project, a nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create and donate portraits to youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges. (memoryproject.org) Students have been visiting the art room during their free blocks to work on the project, and Art Teacher Corina Alvarezdelugo held a session last Sunday to get students going. Finished portraits are due by June 8.  We look forward to seeing their work!

Dancers Learn from Master Hip-Hop Teacher
Walker's spring dance students enjoyed three master classes with seasoned Hartt School hip-hop instructor Peter "P-Boogie" Reynolds. It was a great chance for the dancers to experience hip-hop from a master teacher and they had a lot of fun learning some new as well as some familiar dance moves.

Walker's Participates in Girls Go CyberStart Competition
In late January, Walker's Dean of Academic Technology and Innovation Sarah Edson extended an open invitation to Upper School students to take part in Girls Go CyberStart, a national online extracurricular competition designed to engage high school girls in learning about cybersecurity. Four Walker's students chose to take part: Sophia Botero '21, Hannah Schweitzer '19, Kate Weiss '21, and Rai Wicklow '21. Each day for a week in late February, the girls logged in and solved puzzles and challenges that involved learning about cryptography, web attacks, forensics, programming, and Linux. As each girl completed the puzzles and levels, she earned points for Walker's team.
