Several Walker's musicians, including the Grapes a cappella group and chamber emsembles, performed at the Governor's Residence in Hartford today for its annual holiday open house.

Walker's Students Represent Japan at
Model United Nations Conference

Members of Jenn Pelletier's International Relations class and the Debate Club participated in the World Affairs Council of Connecticut's Model United Nations simulation at the University of Hartford on November 30 and December 1. The student-run conference involved approximately 1,000 students from area schools this year. Our students represented Japan and served on four different committees, where they passed, amended and wrote resolutions and responded to a fictional international crisis.

Middle School Debate Team Excels
in First Debate Tournament of the Year

Walker's Middle School Debate Team competed at Seymour Middle School on Saturday, December 1 in the first Connecticut Middle School Debate League (CTMSDL) tournament of the year, and the largest CTMSDL tournament to date! Walker's team consisted of Zaria St. Clair '25, Kayce Campurciani '24, Charlotte Furia '25, Ruby Dawson '25 and Nellie Kenney '25. For most of our students, this was their first debate. The motion was “This house would allow incarcerated felons to vote.”  One team won one of their three matches and the other team won two of three. Kayce came in 56th in speaker points out of over 270 debaters. The team is beginning to prepare for their next debate in January.

Students Learn from Master Pastelist
Karen Israel

On Friday, master pastelist Karen Israel taught a pastel drawing master class to Corina Alvarezdelugo's drawing students. Students were challenged to draw an all-white still life scene using colored pastels, learning about color values and blending. Karen Israel is currently on exhibit in the Letitia McClure Potter '55, P'85 Gallery. A reception for Karen along with our other exhibiting artist, Gritli Raban, will be held tonight from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Constance Lavino Bell Library. Both artists are on display until December 20. For more information, contact Corina Alvarezdelugo.

Equestrian Updates

  • The Pines Horse Show (December 1 in Glastonbury)
    Julia Luciani '20 won the USEF Medal class on her horse Ganesha, and Ava Strohmeyer '21 placed 2nd in the USEF Medal class on Vince
  • Clinic with Linda Langmeier (December 1 at Walker's)
    28 riders total participated in the clinic on Saturday, December 1 taught by Walker's Director of Riding and Head Trainer Linda Langmeier. Two Walker’s riders, Chloe Fares '24 and Grace Sappington '29, rode in the clinic and Eva Mazzola '21 and Becky Morris '19 represented Walker’s as demonstration riders in two of the clinic sessions.

Book Club: Save the date for the year’s first EWSPA-sponsored Book Club: Thursday, December 13 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Common Room. In this special cookbook edition of our Book Club, cook your favorite dish or dessert and bring the cookbook the recipe came from. Check your email for RSVP information.
Holiday Reception and Ride: The EWSPA will be hosting a Holiday Parents Reception from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the Living Room on Tuesday, December 18, prior to the Holiday Ride. Check your email for more details and RSVP information. An open EWSPA meeting will take place prior to the reception from 5:00-5:30 p.m. in the Constance Lavino Bell Library. We hope to see you there!

  • Diddle's Depot: Browse our campus store online or in person for great gift ideas this holiday season! Exciting new additions include a selection of Patagonia, Champion and Under Armour apparel. Orders must be placed by Friday, December 14 to receive them by the holidays. Note: When shopping online, you will be prompted to log in to our website or checkout as a guest.   • Holiday Gift Show: Support local artists as you shop for the holidays! Come to our Holiday Gift Show in the Constance Lavino Bell Library on campus. A variety of guest artists will have reasonably-priced items for sale, including jewelry, prints, pottery, scarves and more. 30% of proceeds go to Walker's art studio. Stop by any time during school hours or contact Corina Alvarezdelugo for an appointment.

  • Holiday Ride Blankets: Walker's equestrians are once again selling warm, fuzzy blankets for their "Blankets for Blankets" fundraiser to support Walker's horses. They can be purchased online or in person the evening of December 18, prior to the Holiday Ride. Get one before they sell out!
