Walker's hosted three-time Olympian Amanda Weir today for a lunchtime round table with our Ethel Walker Athletic Council (EWAC). The swim team joined as Amanda gave insight on how to deal with nerves and how to be your own kind of leader. Amanda will join USA National Champion Tom Luchsinger for a Fitter & Faster Swim Tour clinic this weekend in Walker's pool.

Special Schedules and Midterm Assessments: January 2019

Read more for next week's review and exam schedule. Students are encouraged to eat well, sleep well, exercise and pace themselves when studying. Note: there will be no co-curricular practices during exam week, but there will be open gym and pool times. See the email from Academic Support Coordinator Mary Beth Conley for more information and upcoming wellness events in preparation for midterm exams.

Long Weekend Bus Schedule
As a reminder to the families who utilize our school bus service to West Hartford, on the afternoon of Thursday, January 31, the bus will depart campus at 4:00 p.m. due to dismissal for the long weekend. Please note that the bus will run at its normally scheduled times between Monday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 30 during exams.

Walker's Observes MLK Day 2019
In observance of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Walker's community came together on Monday, January 21 to learn and explore the importance of social justice through student-led workshops, presentations and a panel moderated by student Justice League heads.

Parents, Purchase Your Winter Play Tickets
On Thursday, February 28, 2019 and Friday, March 1, 2019, Walker's Theater Program will present She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurer's Edition featuring professional puppets from UConn's Puppet Arts Program. The performances will be open to the public and cost $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under to benefit Walker's theater program. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.ethelwalker.org/winterplay and will also be available at the door. (Please note that faculty, staff and students of Walker's do not need to purchase tickets to the performance.)

Students Share Junior Project Presentations
During assembly on Wednesday, members of the junior class presented their junior projects to the Walker's community in the second of four junior project programs of the year. Topics included genetics, equine therapy, scuba diving, lemur conservation and cardiothoracic medicine.

From the College Counseling Office
Class of 2019: Once exams are over and first semester grades have been finalized, we will automatically send mid-year transcripts to all colleges where students have active applications. We expect to submit transcripts by February 8.
We continue to receive information about scholarships which we post on the scholarship section of Naviance.

Zulynette Morales: Beasts and Royal Blues
Painter and poet Zulynette Morales was on campus Thursday for a private poetry performance and reception. Students were engaged, had great questions and came back later that evening for the art reception for Morales' solo exhibition, which will be on display in the Constance Lavino Bell Library Art Gallery until February 18. Coffee and Conversation

The next parent gathering will be held on Monday, February 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Beaver Brook Living Room. Enjoy refreshments and conversation with Head of School Dr. Meera Viswanathan and other administrators to hear more about what's happening at Walker's. Parents and guardians are welcome to join their student in Abra's Dining Hall for dinner prior to the gathering. Unable to attend?
