When pigs fly..! Students in Emma Mitchell's Honors Physics class use battery powered flying pigs to study centripetal force and circular motion. Their goal was to figure out low long it took the pig to fly in a complete circle using only meter sticks. They took measurements of the pig's flight, then derived equations to relate these measurements to the amount of time it took the pig to fly in a circle.

Head of School Dr. Meera Viswanathan Honored at Investiture Ceremony
On Friday, October 14, Dr. Meera Viswanathan ("Ms. Vis") was honored at an investiture ceremony marking the beginning of her service as the head of The Ethel Walker School. Viswanathan, most recently an associate professor of comparative literature and East Asian Studies at Brown University, was appointed after a national search.

Meet Our Winter Play Director
The Visual and Performing Arts Department is excited to have guest artist Cie Peterson as our Upper School winter play director. Cie Peterson is a native New Yorker, who began her actor training as a teenager at the renowned Gene Frankel Theatre in the Broadway district. While she has an extensive resume of theatrical credits, her current acting work finds her primarily in the audio booth, where she regularly books TV and radio spots, online tutorials, training videos, documentaries, and the occasional audio book. In addition to being an actor, Cie is an accomplished director, writer and acting teacher/coach.

Hannah Ayoubi '17 and Palo Rodriguez Paramo '17 Named Athletes of the Week
  • Hannah Ayoubi '17, Varsity Soccer (Avon, CT): "Strong, Fast, Relentless Work Rate" Hannah was a driving force up front for us in our last two games. She knocked in two goals against Kingswood and was the heart of our attack, as she never stopped running.
  • Palo Rodriguez Paramo, Varsity Cross Country (El Bosque, Spain): "Positive, Dedicated, Hard-working" Palo's dedication to her own progress and to her team is invaluable. She brings a positive attitude to every single practice, resulting in steady improvement in her own performance, as well as uplifted spirits in her teammates.

University of Hartford - Seniors may apply to take a class at University of Hartford during the second semester. Students pay a registration and technology fee of approximately $150, but the course fee is waived.

The EWSPA requests your company for our annual Parent Reception, 4:30-5:45 p.m. on Friday, October 28 in the Beaver Brook Living Room.
