The Class of 2017 shared what they are thankful for during Thursday night's Thanksgiving Vespers, an annual Walker's tradition.

Walker's Field Hockey Advances to Second Round of the New England Tournament
Walker's field hockey team was named the #1 seed in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class C Field Hockey Tournament. After compiling a 16-3 regular season record and being named Western New England champions, on Wednesday afternoon, the team advanced to the tournament's second round after defeating the King School in a 3-1 match at Walker's Simsbury campus.

Students Selected to Perform in Regional Music Festival
Four Walker's students have been selected to perform in the Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) Northern Region High School Festival following a rigorous adjudication process held earlier this month at Avon High School. Congratulations to Alora Foster '17 (orchestra), Hazel Wang '19 (orchestra), Adela Yan '18 (chorus) and Isabelle Chen '19 (chorus). The Festival will be held January 13-14 at New Britain High School.

Walker's Hosts Second 'SPHERE Students of Color Summit'
Sixty students from five Connecticut independent schools came together on November 6 for the second annual SPHERE Summit. The Summit was created to recognize the unique needs and experiences of students of color at predominantly white schools. The Summit provides a collaborative space where students can learn from each other about identity, coalition building, leadership, and activism.

Meet Our Special Guest Squash Coach
Kanzy El-Defrawy will be a special guest coach for our girls squash team this year. She grew up in Cairo, Egypt and was recruited to play squash at Trinity College. While at Trinity, Kanzy played in the number one spot for all four years and was team captain her senior year. In 2013, as a freshman, Kanzy was named both NESCAC player of the year and ROOKIE of the year. She was also appointed to the all NESCAC first team.

Walker's Senior to Race in New England
All-Star Meet

Hooray Sunray to Walker's cross country team for a strong finish in the New England Championships! Mary McNally '17 finished 7th overall out of 168 varsity girls, qualifying her to race in the New England Preparatory School Track Association (NEPSTA) All-Star meet at St. Mark's School on Saturday. Congratulations and best of luck, Mary!

Equestrian Team Takes Home Champion and Reserve Champion in Avon IEA Show
Walker's Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) team competed at the Avon Valley Show Stables IEA Horse Show on Sunday, November 13. The Upper School team placed first overall out of six teams, and the Middle School team placed second in the middle school division.

Class of 2017: In addition to relaxing and catching up on some well-deserved sleep, the break is also a great time for students to finish off their remaining applications, and for parents to complete all necessary financial aid forms. Save the Date for Our Next Holiday Book Club
Please join us for the EWSPA Holiday Book Club on Tuesday, December 6 to discuss So Long a Letter by Mariama Ba. The book was chosen by Head of School Meera Viswanathan and is currently being taught in sophomore English. Please note that we have chosen a new book than on our original schedule. We will also have a book exchange; please bring a wrapped gently used or new book if you would like to participate. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome, even if you did not finish the book.
