Walker's Celebrates Beloved Holiday Traditions
Despite the frigid temperatures on Thursday, December 15, the Walker's community took time to enjoy the spirit of the season with an evening of time-honored holiday traditions: Holiday Vespers, Banquet, and the Holiday Ride.

Walker's Kicks Off First D.E.A.R. Milk Lunch
Thursday, December 15 marked Walker's first Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) Milk Lunch. Students and advisors enjoyed milk and sweet treats and spent an hour reading for pleasure. Future meeting times will typically be on Thursdays from 9:40 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. with a few exceptions.

Students Give Back Through Unified Art
On Sunday, December 11, 18 students participated in Unified Art, a service opportunity at Walker's in which students create art projects with adults with intellectual disabilities. The girls had fun making arts and crafts and decorating cookies with adults from Farmington Valley area group homes. The program is offered several weekends a year at Walker's as a community service option.

Lexi King '17 Named to Exclusive All-Region Team
Walker's senior Lexi King '17 was one of 12 Connecticut field hockey players named to the Harrow/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) High School All-Region Team. Lexi, a standout midfielder from Granby who was also named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic Squad, was joined on the Southern New England Region team by two other private school players from Connecticut, seven players from state public schools and two athletes from Rhode Island (Patch.com).

Karrah Hayes '22 Named Athlete of the Week
  • Karrah Hayes '22, Varsity Swim (Granville, MA): "Quiet, humble but DEADLY!" Karrah was instrumental to our double win on Saturday, December 3. Karrah won the 100 breast and as anchor in the 400 free relay, came from two body lengths behind for the win. Karrah is a 7th grader and new to our program.

From the College Counseling Office
Class of 2017: Many students will be spending at least part of the break working on applications with January 1 deadlines. The College Counseling Office will be open through December 22 and we are happy to answer your questions. On Thursday, January 5, seniors will attend a dessert reception/college panel with members of the class of 2016 in Cluett dorm from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
