Walker's Weekly

January 27, 2017

Walker's students work on an ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) activity on Tuesday night, which allows participants to understand the difficult choices that families must make in order to run their households with limited incomes. The activity was part of their training to be greeters and translators for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Our VITA partners are the United Way of Eastern and Central Connecticut and the Village for Families and Children.

From the College Counseling Office
Summer Opportunities: From time to time, the College Counseling office will pass along information to students that we receive about summer opportunities. These opportunities are usually academic in nature, although we also collect and maintain files in our office and post information on the College Counseling bulletin boards of other kinds of programs, including travel and service. In some cases, we are familiar with these programs because we know of students who have attended, but many times we are merely passing along the information and expect that families will investigate them on their own. These opportunities have deadlines and usually require that students fill out an application and submit recommendations and sometimes transcripts. Many of these programs charge a fee, but many of them offer financial assistance.
