Family Weekend is Underway
Campus was buzzing with activity today as parents and family members from near and far arrived for Family Weekend 2017. Guests visited and participated in classes, met with teachers, and enjoyed time with their Walker's students. The events continue tomorrow, with classes, a Family Weekend Chapel and several home athletic games. Welcome to our visiting families!

Read Associate Head of School Amy Wheeler's Memorial Chapel Talk: Beauty, Sadness and Loss
On Wednesday, October 18, the Walker's community gathered in the Chapel to honor the alumnae, friends and relatives who have recently passed away. This biannual Walker's tradition is a special time for reflection, remembrance, and celebration of those who have impacted The Ethel Walker School community. Maddie Ross '18 Recognized as
Emerging Young Philanthropist

Hooray Sunray to Maddie Ross '18, who was recognized as an emerging young philanthropist at the Aurora Women and Girls Foundation Annual Signature Breakfast on Friday morning. Maddie, who has worked for the program for the past three years, was nominated by Horizons Executive Director and Walker's Spanish Teacher Isabel Ceballos (pictured).

Earth Science Students Hike Simsbury Land Trust, Learn Rock Identification
Julie Greshin's eighth grade Earth Science class hiked through the Simsbury Land Trust earlier this week to hunt for examples of the rock types they have been studying in class. The girls were asked to find and identify a rock other than basalt (because samples of that were everywhere!) All students were all successful and had a great hike together.

Amanda Joseph '18, Ally Pelayo '20 and Karen Zhou '20 were named athletes of the week for outstanding sportsmanship. Their coaches shared the following comments:

Students Meet New York Times 
Bestselling Author Angie Thomas

Three Walker's students met New York Times bestselling author Angie Thomas at The Legacy Foundation of Hartford last week. Ms. Thomas discussed her debut novel, The Hate U Give, addressing racism, police violence and adolescence. Students Kyleigh Holt '20, Juwel Williams '18 and Nafarrah Ramsay '21 and Walker's Dean of Digital and Library Services Nishette Isaac had the opportunity to hear Ms. Thomas discuss her novel and meet her personally during the book signing.

Student Support Services: Peer Tutoring
Peer tutors are available every day for math, science, and world languages! Drop-in is available in the Constance Lavino Bell Library during flex blocks, X clocks, and evening study hall. EWSPA Book Club on November 2
A reminder that our next Ethel Walker School Parents Association (EWSPA) Book Club will be held on Thursday, November 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Living Room. We will discuss Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay. We hope to see you there!

October 26 Traffic
On Thursday, October 26, we will have an external guest with an event in Ferguson Theater. This event will begin at 4:00 p.m., so guests will begin arriving at approximately 3:30 p.m. during the time that our students will be ending their school day.
