Walker's to Offer New Engineering Course
Beginning second semester, Walker's will offer a new course on Engineering co-taught by physics teacher Dr. Emma Mitchell and computer science teacher Leslie Goff. The course will be 100% hands-on and project-based, and students will immerse themselves in the process of design and engineering, applying these skills to solve real-world challenges. Types of engineering explored through this course may include mechanical, electrical, civil, and environmental. Students should check their email for additional information from Dr. Mitchell about details related to the course.

Walker's Field Hockey Advances to Semi-Finals
Walker's field hockey team cruised to a 7-0 victory over visiting Portsmouth Abbey on Wednesday in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Class C Quarterfinals. Walker's got on the board early, scoring two goals within the first 10 minutes to jump start a packed sideline of Wildcat supporters. Walker's, the #1 seed in the tournament, will advance to the semi-finals for the third straight season. Walker's hosts Pingree School on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Walker's Musicians Selected to Northeast Regionals
Hooray Sunray to Hazel Wang '19, who was selected to be a member of the 2018 Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) Northeast Regional Orchestra, and Adela Yan '19 and Isabelle Chen '19, who won a place in the soprano section of the 2018 CMEA Northeast Regional Festival Chorus following a rigorous adjudication process. Each of these students participated in the CMEA All-State Festivals last spring.

This year, the Northern Region High School Festival will be held January 12-13 at New Britain High School. The times of the performances are yet to be determined.

Walker's Students Attend Connecticut Forum's Moderated Conversation with Former First Lady Michelle Obama
On Thursday, seven Walker's students and four faculty members had the opportunity to attend “A Moderated Conversation With Former First Lady Michelle Obama” at William H. Mortensen Hall at the Bushnell in Hartford, presented by the Connecticut Forum. The tickets were secured by Ms. Ceballos, Ms. Isaac and Ms. Cadwell, and names were drawn from a random lottery.

Jane Rainwater on Exhibit in the
Constance Lavino Bell Library Art Gallery

Currently on exhibit in the Bell Library Art Gallery is an installation and selection of pen and ink drawings by artist Jane Rainwater. Her "Botannical Tyranny Parlor" installation is a Victorian-inspired parlor featuring custom fabrics, wallpaper and other interior design elements. Enjoy her work through December 28. The gallery will be open to the public December 5 through December 14, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and December 2 and 16 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Class of 2018: In addition to relaxing and catching up on some well-deserved sleep, the break is also a great time for students to finish off their remaining applications, and for parents to complete all necessary financial aid forms.
