RA Open House: Introduce A Friend To RA This Saturday!

Please join us this Saturday, November 3 from 10am-12pm at the RA STEAM Open House on the Ridgefield campus. If you know a family interested in our Preschool through Grade 8 experience, please bring them along and show them the many amazing benefits of RA. There are many STEAM based, hands-on activities planned for parents and children (aged 4-11 years), such as:

• Mechanical motor building with Mr. Nash!
• Programming robots with Mr. Larson!
• LEGO building with Mrs. Clasby and Ms. Spiro!
• Cooking with Mrs. LeLash!
• Musical instruments with Mrs. Penn!

Visitors will meet Head of School Tom Main and other members of our talented faculty, and experience tours of our wonderful campus. This event is open to the public. Please find more information here.

All RA families who bring a non-RA friend to the Open House event will be entered into a raffle to win 4 tickets to the December 1 performance of Snowkus Pocus at the Ridgefield Playhouse.

Calling All Siblings!

Ridgefield Academy and Landmark Preschool is warmly inviting all families with younger siblings, or siblings who do not presently attend either school, to apply now for the 2019-2020 school year. As we truly value our current community of families, we want to give first preference in our applicant pool to sibling candidates. Please contact David Suter (203-894-1800, x112 or DSuter@RidgefieldAcademy.org) to begin the process.

Affording an RA Education

At Ridgefield Academy, we understand the life-changing value of an empowering education. We also know that investing in such an education can be challenging. We are committed to making Ridgefield Academy accessible and affordable for mission appropriate students, working hard to provide a tuition assistance program which bridges the gap between tuition and what a family can afford. Please come to our Tuition Assistance Workshop on November 27 from 7-8:30pm in Turner Hall to learn more about this process.

News from The Center

New This Year: RA's 1:1 Chromebook Program

After two years of piloting a one Chromebook per student in the fourth grade and steadily increasing the number of available laptops in the Annex building, the Center launched a 1:1 Chromebook program in the Middle and Upper Schools this year. Beginning in September 2018, each student in grades 4-8 has a Chromebook dedicated to their use. The benefits of this program are that teachers no longer have to hope that laptops they need for class are available – giving them a chance to more easily incorporate technology into their classes and homework – and that students are able to work on digital assignments at any point in the school day. Students in the Upper School are welcome to use their own laptops if they wish, but we do ask families to complete this form so that we know which laptops we can free up for general use.

Nearly two months into the program, faculty members agree that an unexpected benefit of this program is a greater sense of responsibility on the part of our students. They have risen to the challenge of keeping tabs on their laptops, making sure that they are returned to their advisors' rooms for charging, and taking great care of them.

As the school year continues, we look forward to sharing more about how the Chromebooks are being used in classes across the curriculum.

Grade 8 students met with Mr. Main this week to work on mock interviews for their secondary school process.
