RA Featured Book of the Month - February

This Month’s Featured Book—brought to you by the librarians at the Ridgefield Academy library!

Adrian Simcox Does Not Have a Horse, by Marcy Campbell, is a poignant story about a boy who tells everyone that he has a horse—a “beautiful horse with its white coat and golden mane.”
The narrator, Chloe, doesn’t believe him.
She knows that he lives in town in a tiny house and he has holes in his shoes.
How could he afford to have a horse?
Chloe becomes indignant and finally calls him out for lying.
She can see that she has made him sad.
Her mother wisely says nothing but walks her over to Adrian’s house.

Read on to find out what happens—suffice it to say that Chloe learns a lesson about empathy, kindness, and friendship. The illustrations in this book are stunning, with horses hidden on some of the pages. A wonderful book for all ages.

News from The Center

Won't You Be My Neighbor Screening

Next Tuesday, The Center is hosting a screening of Won’t You Be My Neighbor, a documentary on the life of Fred Rogers, who many know from his iconic children’s television show Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. It’s a wonderful movie about someone who was ahead of his time when it came to talking to children and has only recently been credited with also being ahead of learning science with his work.

Please RSVP and join us on Tuesday, February 12 at 6:30pm in Hope Hall. This event is open to all! Please note, should there be inclement weather next Tuesday, the snow date for this event is Wednesday, February 13.

Because of some sensitive topics that the film touches on, we agree with Common Sense Media’s review of this movie being appropriate for children 10 and older.
