Dear St. Anne’s Community:

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Board of Trustees has unanimously chosen Bill Clough as our next Head of School effective July 1, 2019. Bill was the strong recommendation to the Board from the Search Committee and was selected from a national pool of candidates after a process that included input from the entire St. Anne’s community. At the end of the day, the feedback from our community was overwhelming- Bill was the clear choice. Fortunately, Bill felt the same fit and enthusiastically accepted the role.

Bill currently serves as Head of School for the Nichols School in Buffalo, NY- an independent school serving grades 5-12. Prior to Nichols, Bill was Dean of Faculty, Associate Head of School and Acting Head of School for the Berkshire School, an independent boarding school in Sheffield, MA. Bill holds a bachelor’s degree from Colby College, a master’s degree in English from Middlebury College, and a master’s degree in education from Harvard University. Bill is known as a caring and compassionate leader, one who always puts children first and values a strong sense of community.

We are also thrilled to welcome Bill’s wife of 26 years, Nannie, to the St. Anne’s community. Bill and Nannie have three children, Elias (23), Rawson (20), and Eva (19). Bill and Nannie are looking forward to living in Denver where they can be closer to family and enjoy the beautiful Colorado weather.

On behalf of the Board, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Scott Lichtenberger for his countless hours of work as co-chair of the Search Committee. In addition, I would like to thank the members of the Search Committee- Laura Wray, Ronette Hall, Lori Sherry, Bill Howard, Molly Engles, Nancy York and Rich Amend for all their hard work. Finally, I would like to thank Alan Smiley for his steady guidance and leadership during this time of transition.

Please help me in welcoming Bill to St. Anne’s!

To the community at St. Anne’s Episcopal School,

I am honored and humbled to be named your next Head of School, and I am grateful to everyone I met during the search process. You challenged me and you made me feel welcome, which is not an easy thing to do.

Thank you to the members of the Search Committee and the Board of Trustees who volunteered so much of their time. I also want to thank Alan Smiley. I know from experience that it is not easy to say goodbye to a place you love, and I appreciate his generosity. I look forward to working with Alan and Board Chair Luke Simpson to ensure a smooth transition.

Fortunate to work with so many good people who have committed their lives to kids, I accept this position knowing well how hard school people work. Working hard for kids is a hallmark at Nichols School, my current school, and I recognize the same commitment at St. Anne’s. Of course, St. Anne’s is special in its own way. The humble yet extraordinary vision of the founding Sisters is clearly still at work in the beautiful grounds and in the hearts and minds of those fortunate enough to grow and learn in such a stunning environment. I am excited to join all of you in the important work of honoring their legacy and moving the school forward. We have a good starting point already: we love kids.

We have work to do where we are now, but I look forward to getting to know you and introducing my family to yours. Thank you in advance for your support.
