Saint Mary’s kicks off 178th year
Saint Mary’s welcomed 296 students to campus from around the Triangle, 14 states, and six nations for the 178th school year during Welcome Week 2019, August 20-25. It was a week of back to school excitement that featured move-in and registration day, orientation meetings, assemblies, and social activities, leading up to the first day of classes, August 26. This year’s school-wide theme, chosen by the Executive Student Government Association officers, is, “Do Big Things.” A world of possibilities, hopes, and dreams in pursuit of that goal awaits each young woman in the year ahead.

New alumnae program kicks off
The Alumnae and Development Office is pleased to partner with the Alumnae Council to offer the following new alumnae events this fall. Join us Wednesday, September 11, 5:30-7 p.m. for Saints Connect, and Thursday, October 10, for the Saints Learn event. Bring your business card for the networking event, September 11, and connect with fellow professional Saint Mary’s women. The educational program on October 10 – Financial, Estate, and Gift Planning: How to Be Successful and Support What You Love - features Leigh McAdoo Kempf ’88C, Jean Redding ’72HS, and Saint Mary’s staff member Brandon Wright, sharing their expertise.

To register for either or both events, click here and scroll down to the Saints Engage! Saints Learn! and Saints Share! section.

Alumnae Profiles series continues
Saint Mary’s Alumnae Office is featuring an alumna profile each week on alumnae social media and the alumnae website. Every Monday, we will continue to introduce you to a Saint Mary’s alumna with answers to our Five Fun Questions and post her full-length spotlight to our website noted above. The featured alumnae represent all ages and a variety of professions and accomplishments, but they have one very important thing in common: they love Saint Mary’s. If you know someone who should be included in the series, let us know by calling 919-424-4118 or emailing

All are welcome to join Saint Mary’s friends and staff, as we travel and gather with alumnae, parents, and friends this fall. You will receive both hard copy and electronic invitations (please, check your junk mail) approximately four weeks in advance. We look forward to seeing you on the road and on campus! Questions? Contact Margaret McGlohon ’81C, alumnae director, at or 919-424-4171. To register online, click here.

September 11 Remembrance 2019
Frances Williams '20 and Security Chief Les Ramsey raise the flag and lower it to half staff at this year's 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 8:46 this morning, the time the first plane hit the North Tower at the World Trade Center. The entire school community gathered around the flagpole in front of Smedes Hall to pay tribute to all lives lost and to the first-responders who courageously served in the aftermath. We held a minute of silence before reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing the National Anthem. We join the nation and the world in remembering the events of this day in 2001 and honoring the victims.

Saint Mary's School is an independent, Episcopal, college-preparatory, boarding and day school dedicated to academic excellence and personal achievement for girls in grades 9-12.
