Drake Award Nominations
This Award is presented annually to a member (or members) of the Waynflete community whose service is exemplary and deserving of recognition. The Board's Committee on Trustees requests nominations of individuals who inspire others to support the school and its mission and who themselves have given years of outstanding service to the school. The guidelines state that current faculty, current staff, and current trustees cannot be considered for the Award.

If you would like to nominate an individual (or couple) for this special honor, please click the 2019 Drake Award nomination form and complete by March 1. Questions? Contact Board of Trustees President Christopher Smith. Thank you.

Upper School Winter One Act Play: "Saint Joan" on March 1 and 2
This classic play by Shaw explores the life of Joan of Arc. Filled with elegant rhetorical language and charged debate, it pokes fun at authority and gives credence to those who dare to speak truth to power. Shaw's masterpiece remains as vivid and timely to modern audiences as it was scandalous and incendiary in its premiere in 1923. Friday, March 1 and, Saturday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. in Franklin Theater.

The play has been edited and adapted to fit the short form criteria for the Maine High School One Act Festival

Mark Your Calendars: One Community, One Goal, One Day
This year, our One Day fundraiser will be held on Thursday, March 14. On this day, we celebrate philanthropy at Waynflete and all that it makes possible. Truly a community event, alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends come together to support the school they love.

Visitors from Chile
The World Language Department is pleased to announce that we will be welcoming two Chilean students to our community from March 8–April 6. Constanza and Juan will be beginning their sophomore year of studies with us (they live on the other side of the equator so they are still on summer break!). While here, they will stay with Waynflete host families, attend classes in the Upper School, and assist the Spanish teachers in all three divisions. Their classmates and chaperones will be living and attending five other schools in Cumberland County as well as celebrating their 18th year of homestays in Maine. We are thrilled to participate and hope that the visit will provide opportunities for all to share stories and learn from each other. Please join us in welcoming them to our communities this spring!

Reserve your tickets for the New England Youth Identity Summit (NEYIS)!
Students in Grades 8-12 and all parents are invited to participate in the 2019 New England Youth Identity Summit.

On Saturday, April 6, Waynflete will host a full-day program for high school students, educators, and Waynflete parents featuring inspiring speakers, student-led workshops, and dialogue sessions intended to build bridges and create a vision for strong multicultural communities. Don't miss our two keynote speakers: LGBTQ rights pioneer, activist, and actress Nicole Maines and Latin teacher and author Phuc Tran.

Parents can click here to reserve tickets. Register soon as we expect this event to sell out.

(Note that students from outside Waynflete are also encouraged to attend. Feel free to extend an invitation!)

Advisors will be in touch if students are behind on academic work and need to get caught up over the break.

Money Raised to Support Area Food Banks
Student Government spent its final weeks of the semester raising money for area food banks. They raised $400 which was split between Wayside Food Services and the Stroudwater Food Pantry. The initiative was part of an all-school effort to support government workers in light of the recent shutdown. It was fun to bake and organize for this fundraiser!
