Boston-Area Alumni Gathering

On April 3, Katie Glaser Getchell ’88, Chief Brand Officer and Deputy Director of the Museum of Fine Arts hosted an event at the Museum for Boston-area alumni and friends. Guests enjoyed a reception in the museum’s Trustee Room and explored the current exhibits in the galleries.

Heeding the Call
Hamish Haddow '08 on practicing medicine in Maine

Partway through his second year at Bennington College, Hamish Haddow finally acknowledged what had become clear—he was being pulled in a new direction. His Waynflete teachers had instilled in him a love of composition, which had prompted him to pursue an undergraduate degree in English. But Waynflete had also taught him about taking risks, and that while it’s fine to make decisions based on the information you have, it’s also OK to look back and think, “that was the best choice at the time, but now my plans have evolved.” “It’s hard to know exactly what you want to be at age 18,” he reflects today.

Alumni Speakers

Annie Voigt 11 is in her last year of medical school at Tufts University. She spoke to Upper School students interested in a career in the health professions on January 31. Annie talked about her Waynflete experience and how it prepared her for college and med school and demystified the process for pursuing a career in the medical profession.

Hawa Shir 12 works for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services in Portland as their Substance Use Prevention Education Coordinator. Hawa spoke at Upper and Middle School assemblies about tobacco use prevention and will also be teaching seventh grade seminar students and eighth grade students during advising.

Justin Gross 18 is currently playing Mordred in the Portland Players production of "Camelot" this month.  Read about the show.

Kate Renner ’96 celebrated the official release of the book she illustrated, by Hope Cheney Bentley “Where Else Do Babies Come From.” “This book introduces the topic of assisted reproduction in a family-friendly format. Using illustrations and appropriate language, the book explores hormone treatment, IVF, and reproductive donors. The book represents families of many different compositions.”- Amazon.

Destry Maria Sibley ’05 is a Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storyteller, and is working on a new bilingual podcast about children, refugees, the global spread of fascism, and her grandmother.
